Lane began her acting career in the 1984 film, Interface. Lane was married to businessman David Wilkins and together they had one daughter, Kate Wilkins (born February 23, 1998). Lane is on the faculty of the Department of Theatre and Dance at Texas State University in San Marcos. In 2013, she briefly taught at Carnegie Mellon University. Lane also earned a Master's degree in the advanced training program at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. She attended Lamar High School and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas at Arlington.
